An Eclipse Hung in an Ocean Sky

This poem is a palindrome, meaning it is a mirror image of itself. Written in reverse, the two stanzas mean different things. I wrote it during my MA in Creative Writing at University. This was my first poem to be in print, in the Pacaure Poetry Anthology 2015.

An Eclipse Hung in an Ocean Sky

After Garcia Marquez

As the world trembled in a supernatural shudder,

pelicans, motionless in the air

over wicker-tamarind water

seemed to die in mid-flight watching

luminous eyes, indifferent

through smoked glass for looking at the sun

beneath the canopy of yellow bellflowers.

Beneath the canopy of yellow bellflowers,

through smoked glass for looking at the sun,

luminous eyes, indifferent

seemed to die in mid-flight watching

over wicker tamarind water pelicans,

motionless in the air,

as the world trembled in a supernatural shudder.
